 Baseline Newsletter December 2023

From the  President's Desk

Patera,Michele-2022ed.jpgGreetings PMIGL Members,

As the year draws to a close, I wish all the PMIGL community a Happy Holiday season with some restful time off with your family and friends.

It was a great honor to serve as your President in 2023. I have learned a great deal serving in this prestigious role and gained new friendships. With the support of the 1,800+ strong membership, our Executive Committee, and our exceptional Volunteer Team we can be very proud of all that was accomplished this year.

Anthony Amalraj will serve as your 2024 President. He has been serving as a volunteer and on the Executive Committee for several years bringing a wealth of knowledge to this role. I look forward to seeing Anthony’s vision for our chapter come to fruition in the New Year.

My role will be to support Anthony and the membership as Past President. Please help me to welcome Anthony into his new role.

For members unable to attend the Annual Business Meeting held on December 12th, please refer to the link HERE with the presentation information on 2023 Accomplishments, 2024 Goals, and the respective volunteer team organizational charts.

Thank you for your support and membership,

Michele Patera, PMP®

The PM Professional Conundrum – Manager versus Leader
by By William A Moylan, PhD, PMP, FESD, DTM
Professor Emeritus, Eastern Michigan University

“Anybody can jump a motorcycle. The trouble begins when you try to land it.”
Evel Knievel

Dr. Leland Lahr, one of my favorite undergraduate professors at Lawrence Tech, had a simple but profound definition of Management – Management is making happen what you want to happen. Getting good results without understanding why the good things happened is luck. The astute Project Manager spends the majority of their time on planning with their team. Other management activities of organizing, budgeting, coordination, monitoring, and control, communicating with their project proponents and executives, resource management and staffing, etc., all flow to and stem from planning. Leading and motivating their project team is the motor oil that keeps the PM’s project planning engine humming smoothly. Read the complete article here..
